South West Trains is part of Stagecoach Western Trains Limited, which, in turn, is part of the international public transport company Stagecoach Group. Stagecoach Group was founded by Ann Gloag and his brother Brian Souter in Perth, Scotland, in 1980. At the beginning, the company only had two buses but now Stagecoach Group operates rail, bus, tram and coach services in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
Nowadays, South West Trains count with routes through Surrey, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Berkshire, Greater London, Dorset, Somerset and Devon. Each day, South West Trains operates more than 1,500 trains and counts with over 200 stations. There are around 4,500 employees working in South West Trains.
